India vs England: Ben Stokes getting it wrong is very rare, says Nasser Hussain on England batter’s dismissal
World Cup 2023: Ben Stokes failed to open his account as England slumped to a 100-run defeat at the hands of India at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Nasser Hussain said that Ben Stokes and the other England players should have put their heads down when Mohammed Shami was breathing fire in the World Cup 2023 match on Sunday, October 29 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Stokes had a torrid time against Shami as he looked in all sorts of discomfort. In the end, Stokes saw his stumps go for a walk while trying to play the Indian pacer through the off side. The southpaw bagged a duck after facing 10 balls.
"I was on commentary at that time with Eoin Morgan, when Ben Stokes was batting, and that is when we disagreed. Eoin would have tried to hit the ball into the outfield to try to make it wet and harder to bowl with, and that’s exactly what Stokes tried to do," Hussain wrote in his column for The Daily Mail.
"It is very rare Ben gets it wrong, and he has been the key man in so many difficult situations in different forms of cricket over the years. But I’m not sure he got it right this time and contributed to England again losing wickets in the powerplay," he stated.
"So, for me, old-fashioned as I am, that was the time when they needed to grind it out and survive that difficult spell you get in any form of the game," Hussain added.
After being asked to chase down, England were bowled out for 129 in 34.5 overs. Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow put on 30 runs for the opening wicket off 4.5 overs. But after Jasprit Bumrah got the wicket of Malan, things went awry for the Three Lions.
England’s next match is against Australia on Saturday, November 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
